We’re taking a break this week from home and traveled to Fayetteville, NC to visit my son 1st Lt. Matt Rigdon. He’s currently assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC. Yesterday was a pretty exciting day as I got to watch him jump for the first time. Pretty amazing site to see a C-130 fly overhead and then watch as streams of paratroopers come falling from the sky. Needless to say it’s a very proud moment for me as a father and veteran to know that my son is continuing the tradition our family as established of service to country. Our family can trace it’s roots and service to our country back to the war of 1812. Our military service goes all the way to Scotland and Germany before our ancestors moved to the United States.
In the coming weeks my son and those he serves with will be deployed to Iraq. I was in Desert Shield and Storm serving aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga. My son and those he’s with will be in a much more dangerous place than I was at when I served. Needless to say I have anxiety about the fact he will be gone, but I’ll pray to God for he and all the troops who will be serving our country in Iraq, Afghanistan, and all around the world. It’s an amazing thing serving your country and being a part of something bigger than yourself. If you’re so inclined please feel free to add your own prayers, they’re always welcome.
Have a great day everyone and we’ll be home soon –
God Bless,
